There are three wood privacy fence designs that rank among the top. These include the lattice-top, shadowbox and your basic privacy fence. Cedar, cypress and pressure treated pine are the most common types of wood used to construct these fences which usually range from 6 to 8 feet tall. You will sometimes see these privacy fence designs used for fences that are less than 6 feet tall, but they aren't really considered privacy fences. Any fence less than 6 feet tall is usually there for decoration or to keep in a pet and are not recommended for privacy.
To begin the fence installation, lay out a string line and mark the hole locations. In most cases the posts should be on eight foot centers or less. In high wind areas six foot centers may be necessary. The diameter of the hole for a fence post is recommended to be 3 times larger than the diameter of the post itself. Make sure that the hole goes down below the frost-line. The frost-line can vary anywhere from 0" to 48" depending on location. All fence posts should be set in concrete. Fill the hole with concrete that has the consistency of thick oatmeal. Slide the post down into the concrete making sure that the post is plumb. Fence posts are normally set two feet deep into the concrete. A string line can be used to insure that the posts are at the correct height. Or, the posts can be set high and then cut to the correct height after the concrete has set.
The next thing to do is to contact your local utilities and have them come and mark your property. Buried lines and cables must be considered before you begin digging fence posts. If there are lines buried where you planned to build, you will need to adjust your plans and re-measure before purchasing materials.
Waiting for the estimators to send the builders the specs takes another one or two weeks
Fencing companies provide fences in different materials. Wood fences provide a traditional look but require regular maintenance. Vinyl fences do not fade or rot and this makes them a popular choice. Aluminum and steel are also popular choices for landscaping.
